Repeat of Prophetic History

Nothing New Under the Sun

The important movements of the present have their parallel in those of the past

“The work of God in the earth presents, from age to age, a striking similarity in every great reformation or religious movement. The principles of God's dealing with men are ever the same. The important movements of the present have their parallel in those of the past, and the experience of the church in former ages has lessons of great value for our own time.”

The Great Controversy, 343

“The principles of God's dealing with men are ever the same…”

The Bible is its own expositor. Scripture is to be compared with scripture. The student should learn to view the word as a whole, and to see the relation of its parts. He should gain a knowledge of its grand central theme, of God's original purpose for the world, of the rise of the great controversy, and of the work of redemption. He should understand the nature of the two principles that are contending for supremacy, and should learn to trace their working through the records of history and prophecy, to the great consummation. He should see how this controversy enters into every phase of human experience; how in every act of life he himself reveals the one or the other of the two antagonistic motives; and how, whether he will or not, he is even now deciding upon which side of the controversy he will be found.

{Education 190.2}

“Historical events, showing the direct fulfillment of prophecy, were set before the people, and the prophecy was seen to be a figurative delineation of events leading down to the close of this earth's history. The scenes connected with the working of the man of sin are the last features plainly revealed in this earth's history.”

“We must have a knowledge of the Scriptures, that we may trace down the lines of prophecy, and understand the specifications given by the prophets, and by Christ and the apostles; that we may not be ignorant; but be able to see that the day is approaching, so that with increased zeal and effort, we may exhort one another to faithfulness, piety, and holiness. “

Review and Herald, July 31 1888

In the Revelation all the books of the Bible meet and end. Here is the complement of the book of Daniel. One is a prophecy; the other a revelation.. {AA 585.1}

“Compliment” meaning= Complement => fullness, whence perfection

Noah’s Webster American Dictionary 1828

Prophecies of Revelation Repeat Prophecies of Daniel.

Revelation is a sealed book, but it is also an opened book. It records marvelous events that are to take place in the last days of this earth's history. The teachings of
this book are definite, not mystical and unintelligible. In it the same line of prophecy is taken up as in Daniel. Some prophecies God has repeated, thus showing that importance must be given to them. The Lord does not repeat things that are of no great consequence.

“The angel who unites in the proclamation of the third angel's message is to lighten the whole earth with his

glory. A work of world-wide extent and unwonted power is here foretold. The advent movement of 1840-44 was a glorious manifestation of the power of God; the first angel's message was carried to every missionary station in the world, and in some countries there was the greatest religious interest which has been witnessed in any land since the Reformation of the sixteenth century; but these are to be exceeded by the mighty movement under the last warning of the third angel.“The work will be similar to that of the Day of

Pentecost. As the "former rain" was given, in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the opening of the gospel,

to cause the upspringing of the precious seed, so the "latter rain" will be given at its close for the ripening of

the harvest. "Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: His going forth is prepared as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth." Hosea 6:3. "Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for He

hath given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the

former rain, and the latter rain." Joel 2:23. "In the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all

flesh." "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 2:17, 21.“The great work of the gospel is not to close with less manifestation of the power of God than marked its opening. The prophecies which were fulfilled in the outpouring of the former rain at the opening of the gospel are again to be fulfilled in the latter rain at its close. Here are "the times of refreshing" to which the apostle Peter looked forward when he said: "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; and He shall send Jesus." Acts 3:19, 20.”

Isaiah 7:14

“Before the days of Christ, men asked in vain, "What ist ruth?" Darkness covered the earth, and gross darkness

the people. Even Judea was shrouded in gloom, although the voice of God spoke to them in His oracles. The truth of God had been silenced by the superstition and traditions of its professed interpreters, and contention, jealousy, and prejudice divided the professed children of God. Then was a Teacher sent from God, even Him who was the Way,

the Truth, and the Life.”

“John the Baptist was a reformer. To him was committed a great work for the people of his time...

“The work of John was foretold by the prophet Malachi: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet

before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord; and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the

children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” [Malachi 4:5, 6.] John the Baptist went forth in

the spirit and power of Elijah, to prepare the way of the Lord, and to turn the people to the wisdom of the just.”

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees some to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8. Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:9. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10. And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: 12. 47. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our

place and nation.48. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 49. Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

John 11:48-50

53. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

John 11:53

“There was no doubt, no questioning. Upon the occasion of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the

people who were assembled from all parts of the land to keep the feast, flocked to the Mount of Olives, and as they joined the throng that were escorting Jesus, they caught the inspiration of the hour, and helped to swell the shout, "Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord!" [Matthew 21:9.].”

Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 4, 250

“I was pointed back to the proclamation of the first advent of Christ. John was sent in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way of Jesus. Those who rejected the testimony f John were not benefited by the

teachings of Jesus. Their opposition to the message that foretold His coming placed them where they could not readily receive the strongest evidence that He was the Messiah. Satan led on those who rejected the message of John to go still farther, to eject and crucify Christ. In doing this they placed themselves where they

could not receive the blessing on the day of Pentecost, which would have taught them the way into the heavenly sanctuary. The rending of the veil of the temple showed that the Jewish sacrifices and ordinances would no longer be received... Bt the Jews were left in total darkness. They lost all the light which

they might have had upon the plan of salvation, and still trusted in their useless sacrifices and offerings. The heavenly sanctuary had taken the lace of the earthly, yet they had no knowledge of the change. Therefore

they could not be benefited by the mediation of Christ in the holy place.
Early Writings, 259 .

and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

13. And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have

made it a den of thieves.

Matthew 21:12, 13

“Five hundred years before, the Lord had declared by the prophet Zechariah: "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of

Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." Zechariah 9:9. Had the disciples realized that Christ was going to judgment and to death, they could not have fulfilled this prophecy.”

The Great Controversy, 405

“Jesus had several times attempted to open the future to His disciples, but they had not

cared to think about what He said. Because of this His death had come to them as a surprise;

and afterward, as they reviewed the past and saw the result of their unbelief, they were filled with sorrow. When Christ was crucified, they did not believe that He would rise. He had stated plainly that He was to rise on the third day, but they were perplexed to know what He meant. This lack of comprehension left them at

the time of His death in utter hopelessness. They were bitterly disappointed.”

The Act of the Apostles, 25

“The gospel commission is the great missionary charter of Christ's kingdom. The disciples were to work

earnestly for souls, giving to all the invitation of mercy. They were not to wait for the people to come to them;

they were to go to the people with their message.”

The Act of the Apostles, 28.

4. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. 5. Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? hey answered him, No. 6. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of

fishes.

III. Judgment: Third Message – Judgment

“The work of the Holy Spirit is to convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.”

SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, 980

John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

“Would it not be well for you to seek the Lord as the disciples sought Him before the day of Pentecost? After

Christ's ascension, His disciples--men of varied talents and capabilities--assembled in an upper chamber to pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit. In this room "all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication." They made thorough work of repentance by confessing their own sins. Upon them was laid no burden to confess one another's sins. Settling all differences and alienations, they were of one accord, and prayed with unity of purpose for ten days, at the end of which time "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
